Alice released two albums in 1971, of which
LitD was the first. It was a pivotal album, introducing the sound that would go on to define them for many, many years: snide rock n roll, teenage rebellion anthems and lyrics that had something real to say. Track 04,
Black Juju, is often cited as one of the band's worst tracks, but I can think of a lot worse; the similarity to
Pink Floyd's
Set the Controls for the Heart of the Sun wins me over and I'll defend it even while sober. The highlight is undoubtedly track 08, the catchy
Ballad of Dwight Fry; it’s so damn good.
